Healing – and Death – Move Parents in Africa toward Christ

A young mother in Africa had gone to a series of traditional healers, each with their fetishes and incantations to tribal gods, in a desperate quest to heal her son. He was 3 years old and had never been able to walk. She heard about a meeting at a nearby community where villagers studied the Bible. In her sub-Saharan country unidentified due to local opposition to the gospel, both the healing and the deaths of children recently moved parents to seek Christ.

Help Bring the Joy of Salvation in Jordan

A young Muslim began looking into Christianity online and made contact with a local missionary, but before they could meet, the seeker was frustrated when a traditional church he sought to visit turned him away because of his religion. The local missionary explained biblical Christianity to him, and later on his birthday, the young man was overjoyed to put his faith in Christ – only to be injured for his faith by Muslim relatives. The worker helped him overcome that attack and job loss due to his new faith, and the new Christian remains steadfast. Local missionaries need donations of $60 or $120 to form strong disciples. Pray that small groups would grow into worshipping churches.

Send Critical Aid to the Needy in South Asia

Orphans and other poor and needy children received nourishing food thanks to food distributions by local missionaries, who also assisted families unable to pay school fees and medical bills. The COVID-19 kits that workers recently provided to 1,190 families helped them overcome or avoid serious health issues. Among the 41 mud houses of destitute people that workers helped to reconstruct after natural disasters were some belonging to poor pastors. Native ministries need donations of $35 or $75 in order to provide such compassionate aid. Pray that more lives will be recovered to the glory of God.

Help Lead People to the Lord in Burundi

In an area where most villagers practice traditional religions, local missionaries established a base for visiting homes with the message of salvation in Christ. After one such visit, a mother with three young children received Christ as Lord and Savior, and she has grown in faith in small group prayer and Bible study. Workers request prayer for her, as her unbelieving husband is in prison, and one of her children recently died. In various areas, local missionaries recently led 152 people to faith in Christ. Donations are sought for such gospel proclamation and discipleship throughout the country. Pray that the experience of God’s grace will move His children to drink deeply of His Word.

Help Draw People to Christ in the Philippines

Many unreached people became interested in Bible studies after workers provided food, helped them obtain livelihoods and educated their children, while others came to the Lord through gospel events, film screenings and social media. Workers taught discipleship classes for the new believers. When church leaders invited non-Christian friends to a conference on church planting, 200 of the guests put their faith in Christ. Local missionaries need donations to undertake such evangelistic outreaches and follow-up. Pray that churches will be unified and faithful in love for one another.

Proclaim Salvation to the Unreached in China

Visiting new Christians among the ethnic Lisu in their homes, local missionaries taught biblical truths and deepened their faith through a series of questions and answers. At the same time, workers recently visited unsaved families, sharing the gospel with them and planting eight churches. Amid pandemic restrictions, some leaders divided larger churches into small groups where topical studies and discussions were the focus, with members saying the format helped them to know, follow and love God more deeply. Local missionaries need donations for such evangelism and discipleship. Pray a spirit of love and unity will prevail in the churches.

Bring Gospel Hope to the Lost in Lebanon

The parents and four children of a Muslim family in a refugee camp put their faith in Christ after local missionaries had several gospel discussions with them. In discipleship they are growing in their faith and are inviting others in the camp to meetings; recently a distant relative also accepted Christ. In various outreaches, workers recently planted seven house churches. Donations are sought for such workers throughout the country to proclaim Christ and disciple new believers. Local missionaries request prayer for new Christians who face opposition from their Muslim relatives and neighbors.

Help Provide the Word of Life in Tanzania

Native missionaries are training new believers how to form and teach other disciples, advancing God’s kingdom amid hostile spiritual forces. Miraculous healings at evangelistic events opened many hearts to the gospel, and the message also sounded forth as workers visited people in homes, hospitals and small group meetings. In spite of COVID-19 restrictions, local missionaries were able to plant five churches over the course of six months. Donations are sought for such gospel proclamation and follow-up. Pray that workers will walk in the power and protection of the Holy Spirit.

Heba was rescued before she could end her life, condemning the 32-year-old mother in northern Africa to continue in a misery whose sources she did not fully understand. An affair with a younger man blunted the pain at times but soon compounded it, further toxifying problems with her husband. “I was living a miserable life filled with sadness, failure and problems,” she said.

An 11-year-old boy in Mexico had trouble socializing, and his father was addicted to drugs, so local missionaries seeking to help him had persuaded his mother to let him live at their educational center living quarters. Workers noticed some alarming drawings in his notebook. The sketches made it clear the boy was suicidal.

A refugee from Syria told local missionaries in Iraq that he had dreamt of a group of Christians visiting his house and telling him pleasant things that he could not now recall. He said he was a Muslim officer in the Syrian army who had fled when enemy soldiers occupied his home. “I remember when I woke up, I had a wonderful peace and joy that I had never experienced before,” he told them. “Can you visit us at home?”

A Syrian widow with several children had endured affliction before and after arriving as a refugee in Jordan. Islamic State (ISIS) invaders in Syria had seized her oldest son and, fearing they might take her other children, she and her husband had fled in 2013. Some of her children were able to help her husband in odd jobs he might find on the streets – until he was diagnosed with cancer.

A series of murders of children and young women prompted a three-day prayer event in a town in western Kenya. Church members and community leaders were praying for safety when a young man burst in and confessed to raping and killing six young women. The local missionaries and other leaders prayed for deliverance and salvation as the man’s anguished cries drew more people to the meeting tent – including some bent on lynching him and burning his body.

Accompanied by police and soldiers, a district official in Laos told Christians in a tribal village that those who refused to renounce Christ would be imprisoned. He was angry that they had refused to heed a prior warning to quit worshiping Christ. “Christianity is a western religion – it cannot be practiced in our country,” he told them. “I will give you one more chance to renounce Christ. If anyone still wants to believe in God, then just raise your hand.”

A shaman in Indonesia had quit his life as a robber and drug seller five years ago, but he still had no peace. Deeply troubled, he invited a worker and others from the ministry to his house to talk with him and his family about Christ. When the local missionaries showed up, they found 40 people at the house.

A young man in Iraq, Sami, and his father were descended from multiple generations of historic Christians, but during occupation by Islamist militants they had been forcibly converted to Islam. Such converts have trouble showing loyalty to a new caliphate, often refusing to join the fight to establish and expand it. Both men were subjected to torture; Sami told native missionaries in Europe that his father died trying to save him from the militants.

Amid conditions that seem to grow more apocalyptic every day, local missionaries in Latin America need either super-human stamina or otherworldly faith. A worker in Bolivia needed true grit to continue reaching out to a young man whose drunken rages had driven his family away. “Every time Pablo got drunk, he went home and hit his wife and children,” the leader of the native ministry said.

Local missionaries in Europe are counseling and praying with refugees from Ukraine traumatized by the invasion of their homeland. Besides needing food and other aid, many refugees have suffered the shocks of bombing and artillery fire since Russia invaded in late February. “Pray for their mothers and grandmothers who suffer because they have lost their loved ones, or have their children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters or fathers in the war,” the leader of a local ministry said.
